sustainable energy engineering advocate and career coach focused on empowering beginner and mid-career engineers to thrive in the exciting and impactful field of sustainable energy engineering. My journey began in academia, where I honed my engineering expertise in mechanical engineering and discovered a passion for sharing knowledge. But I craved a holistic approach, one that addressed not just technical skills, but also career development and navigating a career shift. This led me to explore the world of sustainable engineering, a perfect fit for my values of innovation and creating a positive impact.
My life has been a journey of Learning, Growth, and Transformation. It has taken me on a remarkable journey, weaving together engineering expertise, a passion for education, and a constant pursuit of personal growth. As a highly motivated and versatile 45-year-old mechanical engineer, my experiences have been shaped by diverse cultures, locations, and even professional transitions.
Born in Iraq, I grew up in Iran from the age of one. This upbringing instilled in me a deep appreciation for different perspectives and the richness of global experiences.
Family Inspiration
My journey was profoundly shaped by my family. My father, a great scholar, engineer, and professor, was a constant source of inspiration. His vast knowledge was matched by humility, kindness, and genuine care for his students and colleagues. His dedication to learning and teaching left an indelible mark on me. My mother, the backbone of our family, provided unwavering support and ensured a prosperous upbringing for me and my siblings – both of whom, like me, pursued careers in engineering.
A Family Man
My life is further enriched by my wonderful wife and our daughter. Their love and support are a constant source of strength and joy.
Driven by a desire to delve deeper into the complexities of biological systems from an engineering perspective, I embarked on a PhD program in Biomedical Engineering (Biomechanics) at Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran.
During this time, I researched on musculoskeletal biomechanics and published a number of research papers. I also worked as a researcher on design of satellites for several years. I published a number of journal and conference papers on this topic, too.
Throughout my academic journey, I discovered a profound satisfaction in sharing my knowledge and igniting a passion for engineering in others. For several years, I had the honor of serving as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The NorthCap University (Gurugram, India). Witnessing students grasp complex concepts and embark on their engineering journeys was incredibly rewarding. Even today, I stay connected with some of my former students through LinkedIn, and it brings me immense joy to see them prosper in various fields of life.
In 2017, an unexpected career shift prompted me to step outside my comfort zone, the familiar world of academia. This experience proved to be a valuable turning point, allowing me to broaden my horizons and gain a well-rounded perspective on both the engineering field and the broader business landscape. I took the entrepreneurial leap and launched a saffron business! For the first time, I found myself developing products, crafting marketing strategies, executing sales, managing finances and paperwork, and juggling a multitude of other responsibilities. While the venture ultimately closed after two years, it provided invaluable lessons in product development, marketing, and sales. These challenges ultimately strengthened my resilience and adaptability.
Since then, I have continued to expand my professional horizons by working in various technical and managerial positions across different companies. These experiences have allowed me to apply my engineering expertise in practical settings and gain valuable insights into the diverse applications of engineering principles. For example, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with international teams while working with a Portuguese company, and to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams during my time with an architectural firm in Tehran.
In the past seven years, I have worked on a variety of projects. For example, I planned the layout of a biofuel production factory, developed the full business plan for a robotic survey system, created a method for coding (part numbering) the parts of an industrial gas engine, and developed a small software program to design bridge bearings according to EU standards. You can see the details of my work on my Linkedin page.
My life is enriched by a tapestry of interests that extend beyond the technical realm. Music has been a lifelong passion, and I have dedicated myself to learning the art of playing the santoor, a classical Iranian instrument. I published a music album in 2020, "A Day in Persia".
Furthermore, I am a strong advocate for holistic well-being. This passion is reflected in my published book, "Rubrics of Mind in Kent's Repertory" which is the result of my 16 years of research in the field of homeopathy.
My exploration of meditation practices, particularly Sahaja Yoga taught by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, has profoundly impacted my approach to health and self-care.
